Book Drive Details

What: Community-Wide Book Drive for Literacy

When: First Two Weeks of October, 2013

Where: Area Schools, Businesses and Community Sites

Why: Nearly 50% of third graders in Redwood City are not proficient at reading according to state tests. We must turn this around by providing literacy programs that start with infants and include all ages, even adults learning to read. These programs exist through the Redwood City Public Library but they need your new or used books to support these programs. They are used to teach reading within the programs and are also given away to families in the programs and at community festivals to encourage reading at home. For many of these families, these will be the first books they will have in their home.

How: Please drop by your gently used or new books to your local school, library, fire or police station. The participating schools and community locations are listed in the right box. Note: if you have 3 or more boxes to donate, call 650-367-1250 and a volunteer will pick them up at your home.

Special Thank You: Thank you to Boy Scout Troop 149, the Redwood City Public Library, and the Redwood City Library Foundation for their support of literacy programs in our community and providing volunteers for this book drive.
